About the Program

We know that when you or someone in your family has a health issue, the last thing you want to think about is collecting and managing medical records.  But we also know how important it is to keep all those records in one place, for your own peace of mind, and to make sure all your different doctors stay informed.

UnitedHealth Group and PicnicHealth are working together to take that burden off of you. As part of this program, you’ll have access to PicnicHealth — a service that specializes in helping patients collect and manage their medical records.

PicnicHealth will gather all of your existing medical records, organize them into a health timeline, and update them throughout the year. You’ll be able to see your medical history and securely share it with caregivers and doctors so they can provide the best possible care.

FAQs

The Basics
What is PicnicHealth?
PicnicHealth is a service specialized in helping patients collect and manage their medical records.

How is PicnicHealth related to UnitedHealthcare?
UnitedHealthcare is partnering with PicnicHealth as part of a Family Engagement Center initiative. You or your child will receive PicnicHealth's services for free, which includes getting a PicnicHealth timeline with all of your or your child’s medical records in one place.

What does PicnicHealth do?
PicnicHealth collects your or your child’s medical records on your behalf and helps you manage them in a PicnicHealth timeline. When you see the doctor again, we’ll update your PicnicHealth timeline with the new records. You can access your medical records from anywhere and even share them with your  doctors with a few clicks.

Can I see what a PicnicHealth account looks like?
Yes. You can view this sample timeline.

Will PicnicHealth cost me anything?
You’ll receive PicnicHealth’s service free of charge in partnership with UnitedHealthcare during the first year pilot program. One year after you start using PicnicHealth, your PicnicHealth timeline will continue to be available, but no new records will be added. If UnitedHealthcare and PicnicHealth do not continue their partnership, you will have the option of subscribing directly.

How can I use my PicnicHealth timeline?
The PicnicHealth timeline provides a single source of information for you, your or your child’s doctors, and your UnitedHealthcare care advisors and Clinicians. It is a tool to help you coordinate care and navigate the diagnostic journey and can be shared with a few clicks. When you share your medical records, the recipient will receive a secure link and get instant access to your medical history.
What if I have more questions?
You can read more FAQs in our help center or email us at uhc-sni@picnichealth.com.
Getting Started
How will my doctor know it’s okay for PicnicHealth to collect my medical records?
When you sign up, you’ll read and sign a form that authorizes PicnicHealth to request your medical records on your behalf. You can e-sign this form online — no printing or mailing involved. Your doctor will then know that it is okay to share your medical records with PicnicHealth.

What if I can’t remember the names of all my or my child’s doctors?
That’s okay. Your care advisor will gather as much information as possible on doctors previously
seen based on claims history in the UnitedHealthcare systems and securely provide it to
PicnicHealth. Optionally, you can also tell PicnicHealth as much as you remember. If you can't remember the name of the doctor, the hospital or clinic name is usually enough. If PicnicHealth finds doctors that you may have forgotten, we will email you to ask whether you want to retrieve medical records from those doctors.

Can my care advisor enter the physician information on my behalf?
Your care advisor will gather as much information as possible on doctors previously seen based on
claims history in the UnitedHealthcare systems and securely provide it to PicnicHealth. If there is a period of time that you had coverage outside of UnitedHealthcare that you want included, you will
need to gather and enter that information yourself since UHC does not have access to that
information. If you need help entering information, you can setup time with your care advisor to
help enter info with you.
What to Expect
How long will it take PicnicHealth to get my medical records?
It takes about three to four weeks to retrieve your historical medical records. How long it takes depends on how quickly your doctors respond to PicnicHealth's requests for medical records. If you have a  request that is particularly urgent for an upcoming appointment please include this information when you are requesting the record or email us at uhc-sni@picnichealth.com.

How far back can PicnicHealth collect historical records?
Providers are required to maintain medical records for a minimum of 7 years since your last date of service, so PicnicHealth can collect medical records that go back at least 7 years. PicnicHealth can often collect medical records that are even older. If records are no longer available or cannot be retrieved, we will email you to let you know.

When I first see my PicnicHealth timeline, will it be complete?
When you first see your timeline, it's possible that some of your medical records are not yet available. That's because PicnicHealth is still working hard to collect them for you. You should be able to see all your historical medical records going back 7 years within a month of signing up. After the first month, your timeline will be regularly updated with your new doctor visits.

What should I do if I notice there are medical records missing from my PicnicHealth timeline?
In the first month, records might be missing because we are still collecting them for you. After the first month, if you suspect that records are still missing, you can let us know about those records  by clicking the "Request Records" button above your PicnicHealth timeline.

What kinds of medical records will PicnicHealth collect?
PicnicHealth will collect medical records from all the doctors, hospitals, and clinics that you tell us about. PicnicHealth does not collect dental or optometry records.

Will I get imaging files?
Yes. You will be able to view your imaging files right in your PicnicHealth timeline. You can see an example of what this looks like by clicking this link.
Updating your Medical Records
Will PicnicHealth update my medical records every time I see the doctor?
PicnicHealth will update your medical records regularly. To keep your account most up to date, it’s helpful if you tell PicnicHealth whenever you visit a doctor, by clicking the “Request Records” button from your timeline.

What should I do if I see a new doctor?
At the top of your PicnicHealth timeline, you can click on "Doctors" to add new doctors or facilities. PicnicHealth will then collect your records from your new doctors.

What will happen to my medical records after one year?
Your medical records that have already been collected will be available to you as long as you would like. You can download PDF copies of your medical records from PicnicHealth at any time. You can also request to have your medical records deleted by PicnicHealth at any time.
Data and Privacy
Who will be able to see my medical records?
By signing up for this pilot program, you are agreeing that records can be shared with the Family Engagement Center at UnitedHealthcare in the event that you would like guidance regarding your or your child’s care. Only when you select "Send Records" in the top ribbon of your PicnicHealth timeline and enter an email address will your records be shared with others outside of UnitedHealthcare.

Can I delete my medical records from PicnicHealth?
You may choose to delete your medical records and data at any time and for any reason. Just email PicnicHealth at .

Will my medical records be secure?
PicnicHealth takes privacy very seriously. Your personal data never gets shared without your explicit permission. Your medical records are kept safe using the highest encryption standard available: 256-bit SSL. This is the same technology that banks use to keep account information safe.
